After a three-year legal battle over the purchase of land with the existing building and obtaining a location and building permit, the parish of St. Joseph in Drvar finally received a building permit for the reconstruction and extension of the pastoral centre.
It is a building in the street Jole Marića bb, in the wider city centre (along the main road Drvar – Livno), where a shop was some time ago, and whose reconstruction and extension will provide a functional multi-purpose facility for pastoral, charitable, cultural and other activities of the religious community in Drvar.
As the parish priest rev. Davor Klečina explained, the works on the construction of the facility will be carried out according to the project of Mr. Isak Medić from Sarajevo, and the contractor is the construction company Komotin from Jajce, with which the parish of Drvar recently signed a contract.
The financial framework for the first phase of works has already been secured thanks to assistance through public donations from the Government Office for Croats Outside the Republic of Croatia and the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and budget allocations from the City of Knin as well as the Croatian Catholic Mission St. Gallen and other benefactors.
The ceremony of blessing of the foundation stone of the future building and the beginning of works will be held on March 20th as part of the external celebration of the feast of St. Joseph, patron of the parish of Drvar, which will be led by the Bishop of Banja Luka, Msgr. Franjo Komarica.
By the way, the parish of St. Joseph recently initiated proceedings before the Municipal Court in Drvar to enforce the 1958. verdict of the former District Court in Drvar ordering the Municipality of Drvar to recognize the ownership rights of the Roman Catholic Church over 3 350 m2 of land in the city centre (on street 27. Jula) where until 1949. there was a church and a parish house.
Let us remind that from 1995. until today, the Catholics of Drvar perform all their liturgical rites, as well as other social gatherings, in the building of the former Sokolski dom (called Partizan during the SFRY), which was given to the Drvar parish for temporary use until the construction of a new parish church with accompanying facilities.
