ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF REV. LUKENDA AND SISTER CECILIJA
In the parish church of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus in Presnače on May 12th, the Bishop of Banja Luka, Msgr. Franjo Komarica led a Holy Mass for the murdered parish priest, rev. Filip Lukenda and the nun of the Society of Mercy of St. Vincent de Paul, sister Cecilia Grgić.
He was accompanied, among others, by Auxiliary Bishop Marko Semren, OFM, and the parish priest and guardian of the shrine, Msgr. Ivica Božinović.
In the appropriate sermon, the bishop reminded of the fulfilment of Jesus’ words to the disciples that they themselves would experience His destiny, and added that both the murdered priest and the nun knew about these “prophecies” of Jesus. He then interpreted the main principles established by the Church for the correct assessment of possible cases of true martyrdom. He expressed his “firm” belief that the two killed, as well as the other priests, four of them in the last war, were serious candidates to start a church process for beatification.
After the Holy Mass, the faithful remained in common conversation and refreshment for a long time.
Let us remind you, rev. Filip and sister Cecilia were burned in the parish house on the night of May 11th – 12th 1995., when the church was also destroyed by bombing.
