ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOST SERIOUS CRIME AGAINST CROATS IN BIH
Holy Mass on Sunday, July 25th in the village of Briševo, a branch of the parish of Stara Rijeka in the Prijedor region, marked the 29th anniversary of the massacre of Croat Catholics in that place.
The Eucharist was celebrated by the Bishop of Banja Luka, Msgr. Franjo Komarica in concelebration with the parish priest from Stara Rijeka, rev. Boris Ljevak.
In his homily, Bishop Komarica compared the victims of Briševo to numerous Christian martyrs over many centuries of the Church’s history. He encouraged those present not to forget the bright examples of his innocently killed locals, relatives and neighbours. He encouraged them to do more to “reconcile with their homeland” and “with their former neighbours” and to rebuild their homeland, their village and parish.
After the Eucharistic prayer, rev. Ljevak read the names of 67 innocent victims of this senseless massacre in front of the memorial plaques at the entrance to the church, and bishop Komarica said the appropriate prayers.
About 150 believers took part in the Holy Mass, including the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Banja Luka, Zoran Piličić.
